The second painting I did yesterday. When I got back to the river two of the artists were sat painting in the sunshine and I was attracted to the way they were outlined by the strong sunlight.

We were out painting in Blandford Forum with Broadstone Art Society this morning, it was lovely down by the river but I decided to do some urban sketching in the town first. Had an interesting chat with a sculptor who stopped to look at my sketch. It’s fascinating to meet people while out painting.
Playing with watercolour this morning I tried a self portrait without any initial drawing. I may have made me a little fatter in the face but overall I am happy with it.
This is the pastel painting I did during Pam Phillips workshop at PEDAS yesterday. It’s done from a photo taken in St James park a few weeks ago. Thanks Pam for the inspiration and guidance.
Pam Phillips did a pastel demo for us at PEDAS this afternoon. It was a great session and well attended. Everyone enjoyed themselves and produced some great work.
Our plein air painting session didn’t start very well this morning, it was wet and windy on Poole Quay but I managed to find a sheltered spot behind the old lifeboat station and do a couple of quick watercolour sketches. This one is in my new Hahnemuhle toned sketchbook. It’s a lighter weight paper than I am used to but it took a wash without rippling so I am happy with it. Now the sun is shining and it’s hot!
Another visit to Park Run in Poole this morning. It was a lovely sunny day and ideal running conditions. Everyone was happy and having a great time. Lots of runners now wave to me as they go past and quite a few find me afterwards to see what I have painted. It’s a great start to a Saturday.
Our first PEDAS plein air today was at Branksome Chine beach and gardens. The sun shone and we enjoyed a pleasant morning painting on the beach.
At today’s session at PEDAS we had still life of musical instruments to paint and draw. It was very quiet in the room as everyone concentrated on the difficult shapes but the results were really good.
Our first plein air outing this year with Broadstone Art Society to Kingston Maurward. The house and grounds are beautiful but I chose to draw the goats and the students who look after them.
