We went to Fowey (pronounced Foy) in Cornwall yesterday, it would be a very pretty town in the summer sunshine, sadly it was wet and windy but I managed a quick sketch on the town quay before the rain came down in earnest.
We went in to Looe, Cornwall this morning and I managed a quick painting while Ginny and the dogs waited patiently. I added a few details back at the motorhome this afternoon but most of it was finished en plein air.
My bio domes look like giant grey raspberries but there’s still no mistaking the wonderful Eden Project in Cornwall. I was more impressed than I expected to be by both the rain forest and Mediterranean spheres and by the whole visitor experience. My only gripe was the shortage of benches on the garden walk overlooking the domes ( mainly because there wasn’t one where I wanted to sketch!) and despite it being dog friendly there were no drinking bowls or accessible water for dogs. Overall a good day out.
The village by our camp site has turned the old phone box into a focal point with abundant pelegoniums and nastursians finished off with a jubilee crown. It makes a great splash of colour outside the village stores.
We are staying in a Devon campsite overlooking Plymouth Sound. The sun is shining and the views are wonderful. Found a nice pub 10 minutes walk from here so booked a table for Friday evening
We had a plein air session at Tuckton on the river at Christchurch this morning. I managed a couple of paintings in the sunshine. Thanks to Iris and Broadstone Art Society for organising.
I went to an exhibition today by local artist Tom Marshall. He works en plein air using pen and was with pastel over the top. The results are remarkable and I couldn’t wait to try it out. The result is nothing like Tom’s work as I don’t want to copy him, just borrow a technique. I need to explore it further but it was fun to try.
Yesterday we were involved with Waggy Tails annual fun dog show. I managed to find time for a couple of quick sketches while the classes were being judged. My Labrador Nuala won a fourth place rosette in the veteran class for dogs over 8, very proud of her!
We went to Bournemouth Allotments today for some plein air painting. It was extremely hot but I managed a watercolour. I don’t usually paint flowers so I was quite pleased with this one.
We had a session overlooking Poole Harbour this evening. The light was changing as the sun went down so paintings had to be finished as quickly as possible.
