In Ilfracombe there is a giant statue by Damien Hirst called “Verity”

The statue is a casting in bronze of a naked pregnant female figure holding a sword aloft. I would love to have been at the council meeting when the statue was proposed. You want what?!,,,

We visited Barnstable today and went in to the Pannier market. The girls found some knitting patterns so they were happy. We came back via Ilfracombe but that picture will wait for another day.

We visited a small steam railway today. The Lynton to Barnsaple narrow gauge railway was closed in 1935 and has been reopened by volunteers, so far they have around a mile and a half of track so the journey didn’t take very long. The staff are very enthusiastic and wear authentic railway uniforms. The cafe is in a large marquee where they serve tea in delicate china cups. While we were there a group of very large bikers came in for tea, I liked the contrast between the delicate cups and the large leather clad bikers.

Today in Lynmouth there was a local regatta with choirs, pirates and a replica cannon that made everybody jump and set off car alarms. We had crab sandwiches and rode on the water powered funicular railway, a very pleasant day. This was one of the choirs.
