My friend and fellow artist Gill bought me a pot of Daniel Smith watercolour primer. This can be painted on to lots of different substrates to allow you to use them for watercolours. I wasn’t convinced it would work although Daniel Smith is a well respected name, however I painted this on a small wooden panel after just one coat of primer. It would probably be better with a couple of coats but I am impressed with the result. The painting is mostly Windsor and Newton artist colours.

  1. I’m glad it’s proving to be better than expected. It’s nice to use wood. The painting looks more effective on that background. Well done.
