I visited the Frank Hal’s exhibition at the National Gallery on Tuesday. I added the audio guide to the entry fee and it was excellent, giving interesting facts and history behind a selection of the paintings. Hal’s portraits are remarkable in that they show the subjects smiling and enjoying themselves unlike the stiff formal portraits of his contemporaries. I did these watercolour sketches from photos I took in the gallery.
