I went for a walk along the newly formed Cordite trail at Holton Heath this morning. The trail follows the main railway along the edge of Poole Harbour where the Royal Navy cordite factory used to be. The area has been inaccessible for many years but has now been reopened by BCP council with the support of local businesses and organisations. It’s only short at the moment because a bridge over the railway was demolished before the tramway was designated but it is hoped the funding will one day be available to replace it and extend the trail to Hamworthy. I stopped to do a quick sketch at the Admiralty viewpoint where there are magnificent views over the Wareham channel to Arne and beyond.
